Avoid holes in the road when driving abroad

Posted by Freddy Morton

Those with Waeco caravan fridges have been given a few tips for their holiday abroad this summer.

GEM Motoring Assist has urged caravanners and motorists to make sure they are aware of unusual road rules while driving around foreign countries.

The breakdown cover and road safety organisation said that the most important thing about driving abroad is to be prepared, with the best way to avoid problems on the road cited as getting a service before setting off.

However, as a bare minimum, motorists must check their oil, water and tread levels.

"With the holiday season well and truly upon us, we want to stress the importance of being fully prepared when driving abroad," said David Williams, chief executive officer of GEM Motoring Assist.

The company warned that in Portugal caravan owners are required to carry a full inventory of all contents to show police if requested.

Similarly, in Austria, you must not park a caravan within 500m of a lake while some countries demand drivers carry warning triangles and high visibility jackets.
