The climax of National Camping and Caravanning Week has been announced as a resounding success, those with Thetford caravan fridges have been told.
Caravan owners and tent enthusiasts were urged to take part in the Big Pitch last weekend (June 4th and 5th) and they did not disappoint, Forest Holidays Touring Sites has revealed.
The organisation said that it saw a 25 per cent overall increase in bookings over the two days, while those sleeping under canvas at the sites increased by a huge 44 per cent.
Hollands Wood Site manager Marilyn Webster said that the Big Pitch created a "real buzz" among holidaymakers.
"There seems to be a real enthusiasm for wanting to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life these days and camping certainly fits the bill," she explained.
Although, she added, the good weather certainly helped.
Travel expert Experian Hitwise agreed, claiming that caravanning and camping holidays are high on Brits' agendas.
