Caravan owners urged to check tyre safety

Posted by Linda Davidson

Owners of Comet caravan taps have been given load and tyre safety advice ahead of the holiday season.

TyreSafe has issued revised axle load and tyre inflation pressure guidelines for caravan owners following technical discussions between the tyre industry and caravan manufacturers.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of the not for profit organisation said that as caravan tyres are often under a huge amount of stress, it is vital that they are inflated to the correct pressure and are not overloaded.

"As the weather improves and many caravan owners start to use their vehicles more regularly, it’s important for their safety and that of other road users, that they ensure their tyres are in a safe, roadworthy condition," he explained.

Mr Jackson added that if owners of Comet caravan taps are unsure what to look for they should take their caravan to their local tyre dealer who will be happy to undertake a safety check.

Caravan tyres are stronger than normal car tyres as they have to support a greater weight.
