Caravanners urged to carry out car maintenance

Posted by Freddy Morton

Caravan water heater owners planning a trip away should carry out vehicle checks before setting off on even the shortest journey, according to Sainsbury's Car Insurance.

Research by the insurance provider found that just one in five motorists carry out regular vehicle checks on their car on a monthly basis.

Checking the tyres, which is a legal requirement, is the most neglected aspect of vehicle maintenance, with just 38 per cent carrying out regular checks.

Almost a quarter of motorists admitted to only checking tyres and washer bottles before setting off on a long journey.

Ben Tyte, head of Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "It's simple, straightforward and requires just a few minutes to carry out basic checks, and doing so will give you peace of mind that your car is in a good condition and safe to be on the road."

Other checks likely to be neglected include the condition of the windscreen wipers, lights and oil levels.
