Cars are going green

Posted by Freddy Morton

Cars are becoming much more eco-friendly, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) told those with Stoves caravan hobs and cookers.

According to Energy use and CO2 emissions, the latest motoring facts report from the road safety charity, cars account for 14 per cent of all CO2 emissions in the UK, marginally less than they produced in 2000.

However, the figures show how eco friendly cars have become when the IAM revealed that this is in spite of there being an extra four million cars on the road than 11 years ago.

Carbon emission rates from cars fell from 196 grams of CO2 per km in 1997 to 174g CO2 per km in 2008.

"Despite what many green experts may say, Britain’s drivers and the motoring industry are doing their bit to reduce carbon emissions. Drivers are shifting to greener engines," said IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig.

Meanwhile, research by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk revealed that north easterners are more likely to embrace green cars than those in Scotland and Wales.
