Christmas journeys 'should be well prepared'

Posted by Linda Davidson

Drivers and those taking journeys with van accessories and items such as a 12v television should take their time on journeys home for Christmas and ensure that they have prepared for all possible emergencies.

This is according to one expert at the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) who suggested that preparation is key to keeping a festive trip stress free and lacking in technical problems.

As part of an initiative to promote safe driving in various different situations, the IAM has been regularly advising motorists.

In the most recent instalment, driving expert and chief examiner Peter Rodger said that checking tyre pressure, water levels and windscreen wipers are some of the basic things that should be done before any long journey.

He added that a map, emergency essentials such as warm clothing and blankets, and water should also be packed.

In a previous session from the IAM, expert Simon Elstow advised that prescription medication could be dangerous for those behind the wheel.
