Don't go for the cheapest insurance, expert warns

Posted by Freddy Morton

Owners of equipment and accessories for your campervan have been urged to take out caravan insurance to suit their specific needs.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association, said that caravans are a large investment and should be properly protected with adequate insurance.

He advised speaking to an insurance broker so that informed decisions can be made about the correct choice and cover.

"People just try and buy the cheapest possible. I think that is quite dangerous, I think they should get it based upon what is appropriate for them. So if you are taking the caravan abroad, does the policy cover you for things like travelling abroad, et cetera?" he asked.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Services, urged people to check that their travel insurance is also up to date before taking a holiday in their caravan.

He claimed that many people are unaware about the limitations a UK holiday imposes on their travel insurance.
