IAM Drive & Survive advises on car security

Posted by Linda Davidson

Drivers and those who own Reich caravan taps should ensure their vehicles are kept safe during the winter months, when the risk of opportunistic thieves is maximised.

According to advice from motoring school IAM Drive & Survive, car owners should take extra care to make sure they are not opening themselves up to vulnerable positions whereby items can be easily stolen from within the vehicle.

Specialist driving instructor Simon Elstow gave advice to road users as part of the school's ongoing initiative to provide tips and guides on how to keep safe on UK roads.

He said that parking in a well-lit area is the first thing that car owners should be aware of, as well as making sure the car is visible from indoors.

Mr Elstow added: "The combination of cold weather and Christmas often sends shoppers to local shopping centres and supermarkets. Don't let your car become a target for thieves."

Furthermore, Manheim Auctions suggested that motorists should keep with them an emergency pack containing items such as a shovel, a warm blanket and a torch.
