More people 'are turning to caravanning'

Posted by Freddy Morton

More people than ever are taking holidays in motorhomes as devices and accessories for your 'van devices and accessories become more sophisticated and the price of expensive flights abroad soars, according to the director of the Caravan and Motorhome Show, which starts this weekend.

Sam North told the Manchester Evening News people were coming back to caravanning as an economical and fun alternative to taking holidays further afield.

"There are lots of reasons for people to choose to holiday in the UK, and it's possible to make your decision that little bit later if you have a caravan sitting on the drive," Mr North suggested.

The only downside is the perennially unpredictable British weather, admitted the caravan expert.

However, the industry does appear to be booming, with 25,000 new touring caravans and 7,000 motorhomes sold annually.

Recent research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance suggested 55 per cent of people in the UK are planning to stay on the British Isles this year as people cut their cloth amid global financial uncertainty.
