Motorist urged to check tyres this weekend

Posted by Greg Throughton

Owners of Reich caravan taps have been urged not to let the rain ruin their bank holiday weekend by checking their tyre condition.

TyreSafe has advised motorists to make sure they have adequate tread on their tyres before they set off on a long journey for a day trip or mini-break this weekend.

"After the recent prolonged dry spell, the rain showers which are forecast for much of the UK this coming weekend, are likely to make the roads extremely slippery," warned Stuart Jackson, chairman of the safety charity.

He said that as the tyres provide the only source of contact between the road and the car it is vital they are in good condition in order to protect against the loss of grip or traction leading to longer stopping distances, reduced handling and an increased risk of aquaplaning.

This advice was echoed by head of training at IAM Drive & Survive Simon Elstow, who said that motorists should get in the habit of regularly checking their tyre tread and pressure.
