Over-50s shunning service stations when caravanning

Posted by Linda Davidson

Over-50s travelling with their items and accessories for your camper-van to a camp site are turning their backs on service stations and fast food in favour of home cooked treats.

New figures published by Saga have shown that this age group are half as likely to opt for these treats on the move and are far more likely to make and enjoy a picnic on the move.

Two-thirds bring their own snacks while travelling in order to save money, while one in three are motivated by the fact they think it tastes better.

Ros Altmann, director general of Saga, said that this is unsurprising news at a time when the over-50s are undergoing financial difficulties.

She said: "The idea of a flask of tea and Tupperware sandwich-box hasn't gone away, it has simply been reinvented by a generation who want good value for money but aren't prepared to compromise on taste."

Jochen Thomas, director of itzkitchenuk.com, recently emphasised the importance that the kitchen plays to owners, suggesting that those with a lack of money are still focusing on making theirs unique through the use of items and accessories for your camper-van.
