Park Holidays sees boost in January bookings

Posted by Linda Davidson

London-based motorhome owners with Comet caravan taps are considering escaping the capital city during the congestion and bustle of the Olympics for a restful holiday, according to Park Holidays.

The company, which provides a number of caravan resorts across the UK, has attributed a sharp jump in bookings for January to people hoping to escape the hectic atmosphere expected when the London 2012 Olympic Games take place in July and August.

"Everyone's looking forward to the games themselves, but not to the prospect of staying in the already congested capital during July and August," said Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish.

He added that the percentage of Londoners hoping to get away from the capital can provide a big boost to regional tourism, with caravan parks and other venues registering an increase in interest.

Mr Clish explained that Park Holidays' resort is not marketing itself as an escape from the games themselves, with widescreen TVs set up to show the proceedings.

The company, which has won a number of awards for conservation, has 25 parks between Devon and Suffolk, making it the largest operator in the south of England.
