Strathclyde Park gets Caravan Club as new tenant

Posted by Freddy Morton

The Caravan Club are the new tenants of Strathclyde Park, ending a two-year long saga.

A 60-year lease has been given to the club by North Lanarkshire Council, caravan refrigeration owners have been told.

The move comes despite another offer from a bidder which was nearly four times bigger.

Currently, the 18-acre site has enough space for 100 caravans and 50 tents, while it also holds four toilets, a shower block, office and small shop.

Bellshillspeaker.co.uk reported that the a contract was originally signed with Abbeyford Caravan Company (Scotland), however, it pulled out leaving the council to find a new tenant.

The move has not been welcomed by everyone, with Scottish National Party leader Sophia Coyle stating: "I don’t see why we find ourselves in a situation where we are not accepting the highest offer."

Recently, it was reported by WishawPress.co.uk that there has been a spate of car crime at Strathclyde Park, with police urging visitors to be vigilant.
