UK heritage sites 'need to be competitive'

Posted by Freddy Morton

Families with caravans and Reich caravan taps have been reassured that UK heritage sites are unlikely to raise their prices this summer to coincide with the London 2012 Olympic Games and the boost in tourism it is expected to bring.

John Stachiewicz, chairman of the Association for Cultural Enterprises, said in the internet age most companies are aware that consumers will be able to shop around for the best price and as such are trying hard to remain competitive.

"I don't think there's a danger of the sector being exploitative this year," said Mr Stachiewicz.

However, he did warn that the UK cultural heritage sector needs to up its game in several areas, including customer service and providing innovative displays in shops.

"I think they can achieve an awful lot and in those areas we've tended to lag behind the high street," the chairman claimed.

Mr Stachiewicz recently expressed the opinion that cultural heritage sites are likely to enjoy a boom year in 2012 from both domestic and global sources.
