UK holidays surge in popularity

Posted by Freddy Morton

Holidaying in the UK is surging in popularity with Brits, owners of Thetford caravan fridges have been told.

According to BDRC Continental's annual Holiday Survey almost half of Britons are seriously considering a holiday at home this year, compared to just 39 per cent last year and 29 per cent in 2009.

Additionally, over three quarters of people who took their main holiday in the UK last year are planning on repeating the experience in 2011, compared to just 66 per cent who said the same in 2009.

The majority of people are choosing to holiday in the UK because of good experiences and not, perhaps surprisingly, because of a lack of funds.

"The fact that the UK holiday revival has been founded on a conscious decision to stay based on positive experiences and improved service, rather than an inability to afford to travel abroad, gives cause for optimism that this can be sustained well into the future," Steve Mills, director of BDRC Continental told owners of Thetford caravan fridges.

Ginna Clark from UKtourism.co.uk, added that increased concern about carbon emissions may have contributed to a fall in overseas travel, Travelio.net reported.
