Walking 'a great way to get back to fitness'

Posted by Linda Davidson

People looking to burn off a few extra calories and get back to full fitness after cooking too much on their caravan hobs and cookers should consider walking, Ramblers has claimed.

Maria Castellina, a spokesperson for the walking charity, said that walking places very low strain on the body compared to other forms of exercise making it a "great way to get back to fitness".

She said that walking was "especially good for older people as it can help reduce the risk of osteoarthritis, help people gain strength and balance to reduce bone fractures and dramatically cut diabetes and cardiovascular disease".

Her comments come alongside a study by Wake Forest University scientists, which found that obese older people with heart problems could improve mobility by as much as 20 per cent through a combination of walking and weight loss.

Ms Castellina added that the best thing about walking is that it's completely free, which means caravan hobs and cookers owners can concentrate on getting fit and enjoying the great outdoors.
