Walking an excellent form of exercise

Walking is one of the best ways to spend time in the great outdoors and is a popular pastime with caravan water heaters owners.

As well as being the easiest way to see the local sights and scenery on offer in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK, walking is also an excellent way of keeping fit.

Maria Castellina, a spokeswoman for the Ramblers walking charity, said that walking has been shown to improve mental as well as physical health, which is particularly important for older people

She recommended that older people starting out should "begin with easy, short walks on flat, good path surfaces and avoid gradients".

Her comments come alongside research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences which found that walking for 40 minutes a few times a week can improve memory in older adults.

Ramblers recently set up a new walking programme aimed at getting people more active in London's parks.
