Bacon cooking on the caravan hobs 'a top holiday smell'

Posted by Linda Davidson

The aroma of bacon and sausages sizzling on caravan hobs and cookers is one of holidaymakers' top smells, according to research by the Caravan Club.

Its survey also revealed that the sound of bacon sizzling is a top sound, coming in second after birdsong.

Caravanners' other top sounds include laughter and children playing, a kettle boiling for the first cup of tea of the trip and corks popping in the evening, while top smells included barbecues, freshly mown grass, clean air and the sea.

Commenting, TV personality and long standing member of the Caravan Club, Rowland Rivron said: "As a family we have enjoyed many great British breaks. For me, the sights, smells, sounds and tastes I experience on holiday stay with me and evoke memories of enjoying the great outdoors and the adventure of caravanning whenever I re-experience them!"

Anyone thinking of going on a caravan holiday in the coming months could head to the Holgates Caravan Park in Silverdale, Lancashire, which was named best overall campsite in England 2011 in the AA Campsite awards.
