Be prepared to avoid bank holiday breakdowns

Posted by Greg Throughton

Owners of Spinflo caravan cookers and hobs taking to the road over the bank holidays need to "be prepared" in order to avoid breakdowns, said road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist.

The roads are predicted to be incredibly busy these coming weekends, so drivers and caravan owners need to be fully prepared and have current breakdown cover in order to avoid heartache should the worst happen.

"Too often there are drivers who have no breakdown cover whatsoever, meaning they are left in a very tricky situation should something go wrong," warned David Williams, chief executive officer of the firm.

He also advised that motorists make simple checks of tyres, battery, oil level, screenwash, lights and mirrors before setting off and ensure they have waterproof clothing with them despite the warm weather.

The Association of British Drivers also added that the weight of a fully-laden caravan should not exceed 85 per cent of the weight of the car, particularly with a beginner at the wheel.
