Camping and caravanning twice as popular

Posted by Greg Throughton

The popularity of camping and caravanning has surged in the last year, new figures revealed to those with Thetford caravan fridges.

According to research by Pitchup.com, traffic to the camping and caravanning website has doubled to one million year on year.

Furthermore, search statistics on the most popular UK destinations have increased by 191 per cent for south-west England and 114 per cent for the north west, however, Devon stands out with interest increasing by 251 per cent.

The organisation behind the website suggested that environmental and financial costs have stopped people going abroad as a typical camping or caravan site holiday generates 95 per cent less CO2, takes 62 per cent less time to travel, with 92 per cent lower transport costs.

Daniel Yates, managing director of Pitchup.com, said: "A growing thirst for the outdoors, investment in 'alternative camping' options, and Met Office predictions of a hot summer are all contributing to higher camping and caravan bookings."

His comments were supported by Mark Brumby, an analyst at Langton Capital in an interview with the Independent.
