Caravan Club makes 70,000 bookings in one day

Posted by Linda Davidson

Owners of a 12v caravan television may be astounded to hear that a record-breaking 70,000 caravan holidays have been booked in one day for the UK's camping sites, according to latest figures.

The Caravan Club's advanced booking lines opened at 09:00 GMT on December 7th and reached a staggering 31,002 reservations in the first hour alone.

By midnight, the total of 70,000 bookings had been taken.

Lawrence Bate, the club's director of marketing, said: "The signs are showing that 2012 really will be the year of caravanning and that the domestic tourism industry is in good health."

He added that a series of improvements has been made to the booking process across the country - such as email confirmations and online reminders - which has meant that more bookings can be made in a user-friendly manner.

According to a representative from the Camping and Caravanning Club, many UK destinations for campers will see a rise in visitors in 2012 as an increasing number of people are opting to stay in Britain rather than go abroad.
