Caravan holidays in the Loire Valley offer chance to sample wine

Posted by Linda Davidson

The Loire Valley is one of the places worth visiting by people whose mobile holiday homes feature caravan refrigeration products such as Waeco caravan coolboxes.

France's second largest theatre event, the Anjou Festival, is currently taking place in the Loire Valley and caravanners attending the showcase are among thousands of other visitors attracted by the wine producing region.

Running until July 10th 2010, the event dates back 60 years and offers a programme of outdoor performances in historic sites of the department of Maine et Loire, which is historically known as Anjou.

Amanda Gallou, who imports artisan wines from the region, has a few tips for those who want to stock up some wine in their Thetford caravan fridges while in the area.

He explained: "All the wines in the Loire valley as a general rule of thumb are unoaked. Unoaked wines are easy to drink and relatively light depending on what they are."

Mr Gallou added that the region is known for its white wines rather than its reds.
