Caravan owners told to take care on the roads

Posted by Freddy Morton

People planning a getaway to Barnard Castle's new caravan site, including those with Comet caravan taps, have been urged to take care while walking into the town.

John Stoneman, a regular at The Caravan Club's site at Lartington, told the Teesdale Mercury that the lack of a footpath from the park to the centre of town is causing some visitors to walk on the grass verge or even the road.

"I have had to avoid people on both sides of the verges and that is during daylight hours," he told the source.

However, the Caravan Club told the newspaper that pedestrians walked that route long before the caravan park was constructed.

Tony Barnett, head of estate for the Caravan Club, said that the organisation does not have any safety concerns regarding the new park but conceded that as a gesture of goodwill, it will pay for pedestrian warning signage.

Meanwhile, the Press and Journal reported that a caravan and holiday park in Moray will become a multi-million pound venture following a community buyout scheme.
