Caravan parks attracting many retired people

Posted by Greg Throughton.

Caravan refrigeration customers will be interested to hear that more and more retired people are shunning the difficult property market and moving to caravan parks instead.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, increasing numbers of "disillusioned" people are selling their family homes and heading off to take up mobile living.

The newspaper spoke to representatives from Allens Caravans Ltd, based in Warwickshire. It has just finished the first development phase at the developing Leedons Holiday and Residential Park, a £2 million investment.

Supported by Barclays Corporate, the site will host pitches for 80 residential caravans.

Mark Allen, managing director of the business, told the newspaper: "Despite the constant doom and gloom we are bombarded with, there are opportunities out there and some businesses are doing well.

"Many customers who reach retirement or semi-retirement are deciding to sell their homes, put a little in the bank or give some to the children and relocate to the beautiful Cotswolds. Future plans include the creation of a village hall and swimming pool in order to provide additional facilities for the residents."

Allens Caravans has a turnover of over £21 million.
