Caravan refrigeration users told of fall in new car sales

Posted by Greg Throughton

Caravan refrigeration users are increasingly less likely to be towing their portable home with a new car, according to new figures.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported that new registrations stood at 183,125 last month, down on June 2010 by 6.2 per cent.

It is now the 12th successive month that the total has fallen.

Furthermore, new car registrations were down by 7.1 per cent for the first half of this year on the figures recorded in the January to June period in 2010, which was boosted by the car scrappage scheme.

"The balance of demand makes this a tough time for vehicle manufacturers and their dealer networks. Slow, but steady, economic growth in the second half of the year should see volumes increase, although the overall market is still expected to be around 1.93 million units," said SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt.

Recently, it was revealed that new car registrations in Germany went up by 10 per cent, according to figures from VDIK.
