Caravanners raise cash for charity

Posted by Freddy Morton

A north-east caravan club has raised hundreds of pounds for charity as part of its anniversary celebrations, reports the Northern Echo.

Freedom North East 2000 Caravan Club is celebrating its tenth anniversary and recently held a three-day rally to mark the occasion.

The club's latest efforts brought in more than £600, which will be donated to the mayor of Durham's charity fund later this month to be spent by the St Cuthbert's Hospice and Diabetes UK.

Elaine Bell, secretary of Freedom North East 2000 Caravan Club, told the newspaper: "The club did not have a nominated charity to support, but when the mayor attended the celebration event and members heard of the charities she was supporting, they requested any money raised at the event be donated to her appeal fund."

In previous years, Freedom North East has raised money for a number of charities including the Great North Air Ambulance and Hartlepool and District Hospice.
