Caravanners 'should embrace gardening'

Posted by Linda Davidson

Owners of appliances for your camper van such as a 12v television may be looking to brighten up their site plot with a few horticultural additions, as suggested by the Caravan Club.

The club is due to make its debut at the Chelsea Flower Show next year and aims to encourage those with appliances for your camper van to get involved in gardening to add an extra dimension to their mobile home, the Caravan Times reports.

Keen gardener and caravanner Jo Thompson, who is involved with the club's 'staycation' garden initiative, suggested that creating a space that suggests holiday in Britain makes both the caravan and the stay there more pleasant.

She said: "I am hoping that everyone will find some detail in the garden that reminds them of the things they like about holidaying in the UK."

The idea of mixing caravanning with gardening came out of experiences when Ms Thompson was camping with her children and seeing the character that steel caravans can have.

A recent lecture given by world-renowned urban greening expert Professor Diane Pataki to the Royal Horticulturalist Society suggested that people should do more to bring sustainable measures to their gardens.
