Dubrovnik is a popular summer destination

Posted by Greg Throughton

People with Stoves caravan hobs and cookers looking for an alternative holiday should consider the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.

According to the city's promotional body, the region is a very popular destination for holidaymakers.

Romana Vlasic, manager of Dubrovnik Convention and Incentive Bureau, said that people are attracted to the area because it is a small city with only about 60,000 inhabitants.

"Dubrovnik has a long history since the seventh century and the whole city is under UNESCO protection," she said.

Caravan holidaymakers are not likely to get bored either as "there are many events throughout the year. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is one of the most important events".

Ms Vlasic added that many tourists travel to Dubrovnik due to its reputation as a key gastronomy destination, suggesting that oysters from the region are considered to be among the best in the world.

Reuters recently reported that due to strong summer tourism, Croatia's economy could grow as much as 1.5 per cent in 2011 following two years of recession.
