Maintenance to M1 'could cause delays'

Posted by Greg Throughton

Drivers and those who own Comet caravan taps may see some disruption to their journeys if travelling in south Yorkshire in the new year.

The Highways Agency has announced a £2.4 million scheme to replace the safety barriers on the M1 near Rotherham shortly after the Christmas and new year period.

Agency project sponsor Tim Calvert said that the work to replace the existing steel central reservation divide with a concrete alternative will improve the safety conditions of road users regularly travelling on the M1 as well as those working to service the carriageways.

He added: "The existing steel barrier has reached the end of its serviceable life."

The majority of the work will take place on the barrier of the motorway stretch west of Thurcroft near Rotherham.

People travelling to the north-west of England may also experience some delays on the M6, as sliproads are resurfaced between January 20th and 31st.
