More campers 'going to Europe for winter sun'

Posted by Greg Throughton

More and more campers using a Thetford caravan fridge could be searching for warmer winter weather as sites in Europe have seen a surge in bookings, according to one industry body.

The Camping and Caravanning Clubs Carefree Travel Service reported that there has been a huge rise for reservations for the coming season and that advanced bookings for the club's European winter sun rallies have went up by 61 per cent compared to last year.

Richard Grimsdale, the club's travel services director, said: "Many holidaymakers decide against camping abroad generally due to their fear of the unknown, so it's encouraging to see that so many people are now looking to enjoy new camping experiences in foreign countries."

He added that the winter events give caravanners and campers exciting opportunities that may be different from their normal holidays in the UK's summer.

The Camping and Caravanning Club advises on the best places to book a trip in Europe and suggested that there are great locations for winter breaks in France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
