New safety measures on M4 'to cause some disruption to drivers'

Posted by Freddy Morton

Drivers in the south-east of England who own a Waeco caravan fridge may see some disruption on the M4 near Slough, Berkshire due to essential maintenance to the road.

Work to replace the safety barriers between junctions five and six at Dachet on the two-mile stretch of the road will begun yesterday and will last for up to ten weeks.

The Highways Agency announced its plans to revamp the barriers sectioning the carriageways as the current ones have been there since the initial construction of the road.

Agency project manager Phil Hardy-Bishop said: "This major maintenance package, part of our rolling programme of investment in the road network, will bring the road in line with the latest safety standards and keep journeys on the M4 safe and reliable."

He added that drivers will be able to follow clear diversions and that all effort has been made to reduce any time impact on a journey.

Further diversions and delays could be experienced on the A31 between the Merley and Canford Bottom as overnight closures are scheduled to take place for the rest of the week.
