Owning a caravan is an eco 'statement of intent'

Posted by Greg Throughton.

Caravan taps owners will be interested to hear that owning a caravan is now seen as something of a positive lifestyle choice.

That is the view of Marcus Dubois, editor of CaravanTimes.co.uk, who was commenting on the upcoming Caravan Extravaganza, taking place in Yorkshire on the 4th and 5th of September.

"A caravan purchase is a statement of intent and can be considered a lifestyle choice," Mr Dubois said.

He quoted research that suggested caravan owners could boast a low carbon footprint.

"Green holidaymakers can take pride in their choice being the most eco-friendly. We recently looked at research from Lancaster University which found an overnight stay by two guests in a touring caravan produces around 4kg of carbon dioxide. This was compared with almost 500kg of carbon dioxide for a return flight to Spain."

Recent research conducted by the AA has shown that many holidaymakers often avoid using motorways. Its study said UK motorists will drive more than 600 million miles just to avoid them.
