Pothole sign developed to stop accidents

Posted by Linda Davidson

Potholes are an everyday occurrence, with the average motorist driving over ten everyday, people with Comet caravan taps have been told.

Now, however, Confused.com has commissioned a road sign with the specific aim of warning road users about the location of potholes in order to prevent damage to vehicles.

The decision came after a recent ALARM survey revealed that even with adequate budgets, it would take British councils 11 years to repairs all of the potholes in the UK.

"Although repairing these roads is obviously the long term solution, something needs to be done now. Currently the UK's road signs include warnings for wild horses, wild animals, cattle and even toads but potholes aren't considered worthy enough?" said Mike Hoban, chief marketing officer at Confused.com.

He said that a pothole road sign is a vital way to prevent accidents and reduce insurance claims prior to roads being repaired.

Meanwhile, car and road safety experts EuroRAP and Euro NCAP have teamed up to campaign to make sure all road signs and markings are clear and visible.
