Staycationing to be increasingly popular, expert predicts

People with motorhomes and Whale caravan taps may be glad they are able to holiday so easily in the UK, after a travel writer suggested this move is likely to become more popular among potential holidaymakers.

Linsey McNeill, freelance travel writer, said the economic downturn and an increase in the price of flying is likely to lead to more people spending their holidays around the British Isles.

Air Passenger Duty and the third phase of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme are also expected to lead to a boom in the cost of flying, Ms McNeill claimed.

"Ultimately the airlines will pass that cost onto passengers. So air fares can only go up over the next few years, and we're not going to see them come down," she explained.

Steve Cooper of Saja Holidays recently suggested that caravan holidays represent increasing value for money given the large investments sunk into making parks entertaining places for families.
