Take care in strong winds

Posted by Freddy Morton

Drivers of high-sided vehicles, including owners of Dometic caravan fridges, have been warned of severe weather conditions for the next few days.

The Met Office and the Highways Agency said that those travelling to Scotland, the north-west and the north-east between now and September 15th should expect strong winds, especially in exposed locations.

As a result the Road Haulage Association (RHA) urged drivers of high-sided vehicles to plan their journeys accordingly and not to take unnecessary risks.

"Wind speeds are expected to increase to 55-65 mph with some gusts to 70 mph in north-west and north-east areas, most likely on high exposed routes and also those directly downwind of high ground," the RHA said.

Motorists have been advised to avoid a number of roads including sections of the M6 and M62, among others, and the Humber Bridge.

Meanwhile the Institute of Advanced Motorists has told motorists to buy winter tyres now to avoid the rush.
