Llandow Caravan Park in Llandow will be expanding into land that was formally used as an airfield, the South Wales Echo reported.

It revealed that the move will create an extra 35 seasonal pitches and 40 short-stay caravan pitches for holidaymakers.

Claire Evans, the Vale council's tourism and marketing manager, said that the region would benefit from more space for holidaymakers towing caravans.

"There is a shortage of touring caravan pitches in the Vale and there is an increased demand from visitors looking for this type of holiday accommodation," she explained.

The council's planning committee has also given the plans for development its seal of approval, the source reported.

Holidaying in the UK has surged in popularity recently and the tourism industry is expected to receive a boost of £7.3 billion this year as a result of staycations.
